About Me

Author, Illustrator and Blogger

Steve Asbell is a children's author/illustrator. Well, kind of. Since he's still a little insecure, he's asked me, a third person, to fill you in.

He technically hasn't been published in children's books yet, but has already made a name for himself as the Rainforest Gardener.

Well, Steve's a little full of himself because he was twice featured as a ‘Blogger to Follow’ by Southern Living Magazine, wrote a book called Plant by Numbers (Quarto), and has illustrated for Bonnie Plants, La Tourangelle and Ferry Morse Seed Company. In addition to his own garden blog, he continues to write for Zillow, Tuesday Morning and Burpee. If you ask him about gardening, he will not shut up. Trust me on this.

However, Steve has this crazy notion that he was always meant to write and illustrate for children. See? Like that drawing down there, which, by the way, is ridiculous. Why can't that little red bird fly up there and get his own fruit? I digress.

He must think he's so special; thinking he has what it takes to write and illustrate kids, who are pretty much the the most important people in the world. Who does he think he is? Well, you can't blame a guy for trying.

So that he won't be entirely terrible by the time you read this 'About' page, he's attending critique group meetings, conferences and workshops, and even won a Rising Kite award at the SCBWI Florida winter conference for his illustration. Technically it was an honorable mention, but he doesn't know that yet. Shh! He's still referring to himself as an 'award winning illustrator'.

Just the other day, he joined this cool group called the Puddlejump Collective with a bunch of other disillusioned fools like himself. Here's something weird he wrote over there. What a nutjob.

So anyways...

I sure hope he fixes this 'About' page before someone visits. In the meantime, take a look at his illustrations and see what I'm talking about.
